Melissa’s Pro Wrestling Project record was less then stellar; in fact she was at zero wins and two losses. One loss, her first loss was to her very own girlfriend and Tag Team Partner Teagan Cavenagh, that loss didn’t bother her in the slightest. She had fun in that match and she lost to someone that has only been pinned once since she entered the wrestling business. Her second loss however was a stinger, she and Teagan lost to Ace Anderson and Chase Anderson of The Illuminati, thanks to three other freaks known as Venom, Malum and Stitches.
Melissa wasn’t one of those people that couldn’t take a loss, its wrestling and it happens but that loss she felt was bogus. The Illuminati did everything within their power to defeat T.M.I. to get their Universal Wrestling Federation jobs back and to win their Tag Team titles to boot. That loss hit Melissa hard, so hard she took some time to herself and tried to right all the wrongs she felt she had made over the past year of her career.
Melissa stopped the psychotic clown Needles from taking Serena’s head off, over the past year Melissa and Serena tormented each other and for what? That gesture got the two on speaking terms, even got a thank you from Serena, that was one mistake swaying to the side of good. Melissa also caused The Illuminati to lose the UWF Tag Team titles to team Double D just two weeks after they won them, that was her biggest mistake rectified.
Melissa was now feeling a lot better in herself, the final confrontation with the Illuminati was on the horizon, on October twenty ninth to be exact and she and Teagan had a shot at the Pro Wrestling Project World Tag Team titles against the Super Mario Wrestling Brothers. This Tag Team title shot was something both Mel and Teagan had been hungry for since the day the stepped foot in PWP
Melissa was pumped for the match, it was all she could think about while on manageress duty at club T.M.I. down in Seattle. She was in the manageress’ office, Mercedes was visiting the club
[MER] You seem soooo distracted right now dear sister!
[MEL] That’s because I am. I can’t get my mind off of this PWP Tag Team Championship match against the Super Mario Wrestling Brothers!
[MER] Wait, what? Who? Mario and Luigi?!
[MEL] No, Max Powers and Landon Knight, although they did used to go by the names Matt Mario and Landon Marion, so…
Mercedes let out a little sputter giggle after hearing those names
[MER] So their tag team name comes right from the offices of the Nintendo Corporation and one of the guys in the team… his name comes right from a Simpson’s Episode?!
[MEL] Yeah I know, there’s the right way, the wrong way and the Max Powers way!
[MER] Isn’t that the wrong way?!
[MEL] Yes, but faster!
Mer giggled again as she pulled up a chair to sit with her twin sister. Mercedes put her hands behind her head and her feet up on to Melissa’s desk
[MER] So, what are these guys about?
[MEL] They’re two young upstarts that are apparently in love with the Super Mario Brothers, go figure. They call themselves the Red and Green Machine, they really take this whole Super Mario thing to a whole new level Mer, let me tell ya
[MER] I suppose they’re billed from the Princess’ Castle or something too right?
[MEL] Close, Mushroom World
Mercedes raises and eyebrow, sniggering once again
[MER] You gone and done your homework sis!
[MEL] Of course I have Mer. Ever since we stepped foot in PWP me and Teagan wanted their tag team titles, even before they were even created! We couldn’t take part in the match to crown the first Champions because… well, I was going through that phase of self doubt you know? I had to right all those mess ups I’d caused over the past year before I could focus on PWP. If I’d gone in to that match at Too Legit To Quit I’d have probably let Teagan down, I had to do what I had to do before focusing on PWP but I’m good now. I’m good and I’m ready to climb to the top of the PWP Tag Team ladder with Teagan by my side
Mel shoves Mercedes’ feet off her desk before taking a cloth and wiping the part where her sister’s shoes had just marked
[MER] Sorry…
[MEL] Please don’t put your feet on the desk, this thing is murder to clean.
[MER] Oh stop! It’s not like you can even concentrate on wiping your desk clean right now
Melissa throws the cloth in the trash bin under the desk and lets out a sigh
[MEL] I know right? I can’t concentrate on the slightest thing. All I have in my head are these Smash Brothers guys. I mean, we got to the top of the UWF Tag Team division in epic fashion with all of those outsiders disposing of The Asylum but PWP, it isn’t the same…
[MER] How do you mean?
[MEL] UWF’s a set company, set roster, set tag teams, you know? PWP, its representatives from all kinds of different companies from all over the globe. Me and Teags, we represent the Universal Wrestling Federation. That’s our badge, we wear the UWF’s colors when we wrestle in PWP. The Super Mario Brother dudes, they’re out there repping Frontier Grapple Arts. It’s not just the case of one tag team facing another tag team from the same company. The tag teams in PWP’s tag team division could come from absolutely anywhere, it essentially has the best tag team division of any wrestling promotion in the world and we have the chance to be its Tag Team Champions. We proved once that we were the best tag team in the UWF but if we win the PWP Tag Team titles we would be classed as the best tag team in the world
[MER] So, you’re saying these Nintendo obsessed dudes are the best tag team in the world? Remember who you’re talking to here sis!
Mel looked a little embarrassed forgetting that Mercedes, along with Carter Hayes, were the Internet Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions.
[MEL] Well, actually Mer, yeah… No offence to you or Carter but like the UWF is the IWA is a set company, has a set roster and set tag teams. I am actually saying that Powers and Knight are the premier tag team in the world right now.
[MER] Seems weird to say that about two guys who are obsessed with Mario and Nintendo
[MEL] Maybe but that’s the wacky world of this business Mer. Hell I was in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match where you had to grab a comic book remember? This business brings out the strangest of people. Teagan is still being stalked by three clowns, two of them that dress exactly the same and their dad who looks like a psychotic monster. The UWF Tag Team Champions are two chicks that wear masks and say they’re Superheroines by day, wrestlers by night… or the other way around. You just faced a guy that sliced someone’s ear off with gardening equipment. If there’s one thing I’ve learned Mer it’s to expect the unexpected
[MER] But if you expect the unexpected doesn’t that make the unexpected expected?!
Melissa facepalms and shakes her head
[MEL] Well, yeah I guess so but you know what I mean. Never let things like that fool you, these guys are good, they’re better than good, they’re the best tag team this world has to offer and they proved that by winning the PWP Tag Team titles, not just by winning them but by becoming the very first Champions.
[MER] I know all about that, trust me
[MEL] Exactly why I know you know how important this is Mer. See, Teagan and me want those Tag Team titles more than anything right now but we know this isn’t gonna be easy, we know that we’re gonna have to train extra hard for this match. They only won the titles a few weeks ago, their first defence will be just over a month after winning them. They’re not gonna want to be “that team” that lost the gold on the very first title defense so to them this match is probably gonna seem a hell of a lot bigger than the match they actually captured the titles in. Thing is, losing on the first defence happens, look at Sister Liliana and Blake Jones, they were both PWP World Heavyweight Champions yet they both lost the title less than a month after winning it and on their first defences. You better believe that Knight and Powers know this too, you better believe that this is in their heads but believe me Mercedes, believe me when I say that this match is gonna turn out like that for them. While they hold those PWP Tag Team title belts they’ll be known as the best team in the world but they’ll only be known as that until they lose them and when they lose them that is when T.M.I. will be known as the greatest tag team in the world today
[MER] And I’m sure this is the first time in the history of T.M.I.’s existence that The Illuminati is pulling for you to win…
Melissa had almost forgotten about them. Not four days after their match with The Super Mario Wrestling Brothers at PWP Trick Or Teat on October twenty fifth would T.M.I. be facing their long time rivals Ace Anderson and Chase Anderson, The Illuminati at UWF ShockWave XVIII. A match that was big enough as it was but could be made even bigger should T.M.I. become PWP Tag Team Champions.
In the space of four days Melissa had a PWP Tag Team title match with Teagan, which was by far her biggest match to date and then she would go on to the UWF’s biggest show of the year to face the only team to currently have handed T.M.I. a loss, The Illuminati. She didn’t want to admit it but nerves were setting in but she had to keep her focus, first on Trick or Treat. She looked back over at her sister
[MEL] Yeah… no doubt they are. I had no idea Glenn and Josh had even spoke, I wasn’t even sure Legend even knew we had a PWP Tag Team title shot but apparently he keeps up with our travels. It just makes our matches on both shows even bigger you know? If, no, when we beat Powers and Knight at Trick or Teat instead of repping the UWF at a PWP event we’ll be repping PWP at a UWF even, not just any event, the biggest event of the year ShockWave. Illuminati have gotta be licking their lips right now and so have the Super Mario Wrestling Brothers. On one side of the coin the Red and Green Machine have gotta be figuring that our minds are on The Illuminati, on the other side of the coin The Illuminati know that our minds are on PWP, thus they’re just waiting for us to win the PWP Tag Team titles in hopes they’ll take it from us four days later. The only thing right about all of that is that Illuminati are expecting us to win, they know we’re gonna win, they know what we can do but rest assured twin sister, they took tag team gold from us once but they will not be taking tag team gold from us twice.
[MER] Well, at least you shouldn’t have an Asylum to worry about this time, that’s a bonus right?
[MEL] I still have three clowns pestering me though, okay they’re pestering Teagan more but still. I need to call Josh and see if he can hire like, fifty or a hundred and fifty extra security guards for this match with Knight and Powers. When me and Teagan win those belts, I want it to be fair and square, nice and neat, squeaky clean. I don’t want Knight and Powers to have any excuses. We want these belts, we’re hungry for these belts but we don’t want any controversy or shenanigans or anything to question our win…
Melissa stops in her tracks as the office door opens, it startles Mercedes to the point she almost falls off of her chair. Melissa looks up to see Teagan’s face peering around the door, she has a frown on her face
[TEAGS] Hey, Mel, are you actually gonna do some work today or just hang with your sister back here all night?! The club is packed, I could use some help
[MEL] Okay, Okay, I’m coming!
Teagan disappears back in to the club, closing the door behind her. Melissa lets out a sigh.
[MEL] I guess I should go do work. You can hang here till I’m done if you want, its only a few more hours since clocking off time!
Mercedes nods as Melissa heads back in to the club but Melissa really didn’t really want to work tonight. She just wanted to get to Trick or Treat to step in the ring with the Super Mario Wrestling Brothers.
She just wanted to be the PWP Tag Team Champion with her girlfriend

The career of Teagan Cavenagh was notoriously back and forth. Sometimes, she won, sometimes she lost... though, without being pinned which was somewhat of a positive... and sometimes, she was randomly assaulted by monsters of all kinds. But finally, there was a match she could really focus on and for that, she was thrilled and thankful to the PWP for this opportunity. She could put all negativity behind her, as well as the worry she often had that she and/or Melissa would be assaulted at random because something told her, there was nothing to be concerned with in those terms this week. Instead, she could pay full attention to the match itself and in her eyes, it was about time.
The two women were deserving of an opportunity like this. After all, they'd done a lot in their careers both separately and together, so why not? They were a team who had wrestled for the UWF for some time now and had achieved just about all they could there and the two were now expanding their horizons... and this situation was perfect.
Life hadn't always been easy for Teagan and while she had struggled to have her voice heard or even maintain her emotions, she was, at last, in an ideal situation. She found herself finally able to accept happiness and she couldn't change any part of it for the world. She'd been overcome with self-doubt many times throughout the course of her career but overall, she was somebody who could see the positive in any situation. She had gone through various situations throughout her career where she just wanted to give up, almost quitting entirely at one point. However, her bitterness had subsided and she had transitioned herself smoothly into a more positive and optimistic attitude; one that was now undoubtedly working in her favor.
We see Teagan Cavenagh standing in a random hallway... it's not known where precisely but it appeared to be one in a currently unidentified hotel. Perhaps it was the old-fashion decor that gave that away. Either way, the black-haired Australian beauty stood with a smile etched onto her ruby red lips. She lifted a hand and lightly waved towards the camera as it began recording.
Teagan: It's once again been kinda a long time since I've been in front of the camera... I've had a few weeks off again but as usual, I am stoked to be back and wrestling for the awesome PWP. It's time for Teagan Cavenagh to get back on track and I sure as hell can't think of a better way to be going about it.
This is honestly something I have been waiting for... for so long. There's really not that many other situations that could possibly beat the feeling of being awarded a title shot that you know you can go ahead and take advantage of!
Finally... finally... finally... finally... I'm being given a chance. Myself and Melissa deserve this opportunity and that's obvious. After all, we've both paid our dues over the years and frankly, I think we've earned this shot fair and square. Most can say perhaps it is a bit random. I mean, shouldn't the #1 Contenders have been at least a team who were initially in contention for these titles? Yeah, probably. But if we look at things the other way, why should any of the get another shot? I mean, they lost the first time so why not let a fresh team step in? Myself and Melissa are a team who have done well in the past here... so far, I've got one win and one loss... so perhaps this is a little questionable. But let's be honest... we're the best damn team out there right now.
Teagan paused rather abruptly, placing a hand on her hip as she continued.
Teagan: So that's a pretty bold statement, right? How can I justify it? Well, we have epic team work abilities... we're honestly just flawless in our approach because we know each other so damn well...
... probably too well, some could say.
But there's nothing wrong with that! It means we've got the edge. I'm not saying the opponents don't. But as expected, I do just believe in myself and Melissa far more. I know that the two of us can be a team that the entire wrestling world remembers.
She nodded, confidently.
Teagan: After all, what have we got on our side to brag about? Well, I am a former champion. I've held the UWF Overload! and UWF Tag Team Championships. I know how it feels to be in the spotlight and how to present myself as a champion. I've got the fighting spirit and even the respect of others. In the space of a year and a half, I've only been pinned once and I'm yet to be forced to submit. That in itself, is a pretty damn big deal.
So I'm not just standing here and claiming that I'm deserving for no reason... no... I've actually proven myself more than enough in my career to know that I've earned this. Same goes for Melissa. We've each been through more than enough and that means we're owed this... but we're not going to just take advantage. I mean, we know that we're being provided with a chance that every team out there would absolutely kill for... and we're the ones with it? I... I'm honored. I know Melissa is too. It means a lot to her... it means so much to the two of us and we're not going to allow it to pass us by. In fact, we're just going to fight... hard. We're going to ensure that things work for us because we rarely let anything get us down... no matter how tough things get.
We're tenacious. That's just one of the things about us... and one of our many great qualities. So yeah... just be aware of that! When we set our minds to something, we refuse to quit and this is one of those situations!
It was clear that Teagan believed in herself and perhaps more so, in Melissa. The two had such impressive chemistry both in and out of the ring and that's what mattered in an event such as this. Pressure wasn't something that could knock the two women down and instead, it just drove them further and now was a time for the two to really prove that.
Teagan: Melissa, on the other hand is known as the 'Queen of the Universe'. She's a former multi-time champion over in the UWF as well. She kills it in the ring every single damn time she steps into the ring. She, much like myself, can thrive in high-pressure situations and I know without a shadow of a doubt, that I can trust her not to disappoint me.
I do get that the opposition have a lot of great things about themselves that they could ramble on about, as well. I mean, they are great athletes with some great achievements. After all, they did win those titles in spectacular fashion and in doing so, defeated some great names. But they've got a lot to live up to now. But can they really live up to expectations and deal with the pressure? I guess only time will tell. We do get that you're both fan favorites so we know you've got the support but I don't doubt for one moment that we do too. After all, we're usually the ones facing monsters or bad guys... so this is a nice, welcome change for us.
Overall, it's safe to say that I am confident. There's not a great deal to fear so let's just get on with it and fight for those titles! I actually respect these two guys for how they won the gold in the first place but I hope that they are soaking in every single second they have with those titles in their possession... because they'll be coming to team T.M.I soon! There's really no doubt about it. Nothing against the guys but they've got what we want and we're going to take it!
We've been knocked down plenty of times but now it's time for us to finally achieve everything we've ever wanted. To be PWP Tag Team Champion with my girlfriend is the ideal situation so bring it on, I say!
At the mention of the titles once more, a smile appeared on her lips.
Teagan: But no matter what, this is going to be an epic battle. I can't wait for it... but just know, boys, that this is nothing personal... so no, there won't be any sort of dreams of bloodshed and threats of death like there would be in a very personal battle... but this is about gold. That means we all push ourselves to the limit and beyond to get our hands on those shiny titles. Boys, just be aware that T.M.I are ready and willing to do absolutely whatever it takes to end up with those titles at the end of Trick or Treat. We want our names to be added to the history books...
... and I'm going to wrap things up here, just keeping things short, sweet and to the point.
She lightly tilted her head to one side as she wrapped some strands of her dark hair around her finger.
Teagan: Soooo I wish these two guys the best. I mean, it might not mean a damn thing to them. Who knows if they care if I wish them luck? But oh well, I still expect great things from this match and I know for an absolute fact that myself and Melissa have what it takes to steal the damn show but do you boys? I see Teagan and Melissa walking out with the gold... are you boys man enough to stop us?
She smirked as she leaned slightly closer to the camera.
Teagan: Those belts will just suit us better, don't you think?
Teagan blew a kiss to the camera as she then leaned forward to end the recording there. She'd achieved all she needed to in terms of addressing the competition and now was time for her to ready herself for this battle all the more, by training. However, before she could do that, she had promised her younger sister, Talia, a few days of hanging out. That may end up being a mistake on Teagan's part, considering the two didn't get on all too well on occasion. This, was perhaps one key example of why...
"TEAAAAAGAAAAAN!"
The high-pitched shrill voice gave Teagan the chills as it reached her from within the room behind her. Teagan rolled her eyes, whilst she shuddered, lightly. She did indeed love her sister but at the same time, the she seemed completely unaware of the importance behind what Teagan did for a living. Teagan essentially stormed back into the room with an expression on her face to show a mix of both confusion and annoyance.
Teagan: What the hell is wrong with you?
Talia: ... I'm bored.
Teagan: Well, sadly for you, I'm not here to entertain you in the least.
Talia pouted her lips together and tilted her head at a slight angle.
Talia: Why are you here?
Teagan: To take care of business, obviously. I have a lot going on right now. And much like last time you were following me around here ahead of my last PWP match, I hardly need any distractions!
Talia nodded.
Talia: Okay, I can get the message. I totally understand what you're saying!
She sat back and allowed silence to consume the scene briefly but apparently couldn't maintain the quiet for too long.
Talia: Soooo... what business, exactly?
Teagan rolled her eyes as an initial response.
Teagan: Talia, this is the biggest match of my career and one of the biggest of Mel's career. Sure, we always got far in UWF together but PWP is entirely different. There's so many more athletes here, all different ones. A different company means a new set of challenges for us. Since their invention, the PWP Tag Team Championships meant a lot to us and probably even more than they mean to the current champions... and that is why this match means so much and that is why we have to win.
Talia: Fair enough... who are you even against?
Teagan: Max Powers and Landon Knight... these two guys who go by the collective team name of 'Super Mario Wrestling Bros.' I honestly don't know all that much about them but they seem to uh... have a love for video games, from what I gather. Even the name gives that away quite vividly...
Teagan wasn't too sure where she was going with this but seemed confident in her delivery of discussing her opponents for this week.
Teagan: I've already said this once but they have got to be good if they managed to make history and become the first ever PWP Tag Team Champions. I've given them all the credit I can about their in-ring abilities... but something tells me they're just not focusing the way they should. I don't know them personally, I've no idea about the way they train and I have no clue about whether or not they believe in themselves or are occasionally overcome with doubt. Who the hell knows? But one thing I can tell ya, is that they're not going to be easy to beat... for a normal team. But myself and Melissa aren't a normal team. We're better than a normal team.
They may know each other well but so do myself and Melissa. We know each other better than two individuals can. But now is their chance to prove they weren't just fluke champions... but it's a shame for them they won't be able to actually do that... they're up against T.M.I... and they have no clue what that means... not yet, at least.
Silence took over again before the younger Cavenagh sister spoke up to break said silence.
Talia: ... so they're just weird nerds?
Teagan: Talia! Not all nerds are weird. And not all weird people are nerds! I mean, there are plenty of me in my life I love who happen to be nerds and weird so there's nothing wrong with that, anyway. Don't hate.
Talia immediately shook her head.
Talia: I'm not!
Teagan: Good, because well, you do kinda have a point. These two do kinda seem a little off. I think they may just be spending too much time off in their own imaginary worlds as opposed to living here in the real world with the rest of us... but they're gonna have to be brought straight back down to reality sooner or later.
After a few seconds, Talia spoke up again.
Talia: And uh... you'll be the one to do that?
Teagan: You're catching on quickly to this. Maybe you're smarter than we all give you credit for...
Talia: Thanks!
She shrieked eagerly before her expression suddenly fell.
Talia: Hey!
From there, Teagan rolled her eyes, although keeping it light with a smile on her face. That smile grew as she glanced down at the cell phone she held in her hand as she looked at the screen flashing with the name 'Melissa', who was currently calling her.
Teagan: Finally, some sanity! Maybe...

Off-Cam We couldn’t defend against the SMWB because they went to compete aboard...
We couldn’t defend the FGA Tag Titles against the SMWB because they went to compete aboard...
We couldn’t give the SMWB their rightful rematch because they went to compete abroad...
Annie… Annie… Annie. I know she’s naive, but c’mon!
Okay, I’ll admit. Between these tours of Japan, the Super Mario Wrestling Bros haven’t exactly had a lot of time to compete here stateside. And what little time they do have back here in the states, it goes directly towards their PWP commitments. They’re not complaining at all. They knew what they up for when they notified the office in Japan that they’d love to come back. They knew what they were signing up for when they threw their hats into the PWP Tag Team gauntlet. But since when does them competing abroad prevent the Sparklebuddies from giving them their rematch?
Just look at the twitter of these wrestlers. You’ve got guys flying from the US to England to Germany to Italy to France to Japan to Canada to Mexico. You’ve got guys double and triple booking themselves on the same day. You mean to tell me Annie can’t find the time in between posting selfies to track down the SMWB? You mean to tell me that between Laurel trying to gobble up every tag team title she can get her hands on, she can’t find the time to track them down? When the SMWB were the FGA Tag Team Champs, I seem to recall them defending those titles against a team that wasn’t even contracted to FGA. Heck, they weren’t even guest stars! They had to affiliation whatsoever to FGA yet the SMWB still sought them out, fought them at a neutral ground and successfully defended the titles against them. But oh nooooooooo. Not the Sparklebuddies. The SMWB too busy competing abroad to get a title shot.
Man, get out of here with that mess...
I don’t know about these Sparklebuddies anymore. Underneath the glitter, the flowers, the tassels, the sparkles and even that #grrface, I think that deep down Annie Zellor and Laurel Anne Hardy know that they escaped Miami by the skin of their teeth. I think they know that deep down, they barely and I do mean BARELY beat the Super Mario Wrestling Bros for the Tag Team Titles. They’re not complaining. This isn’t them saying that they “got lucky” or anything like that. Annie and Laurel were the better team that night. Key words being THAT NIGHT. I for one would love to see what would happen if the Sparklebuddies and the Red n Green Machine ever got in the ring once again.
I’m pretty confident in saying that the outcome would be much different.
But I guess we’ll never know since the SMWB is too busy “wrestling aboard.”
With The Black Hand lining up for a title shot that should be theirs, and now with Colton Sterling and Ash making a case for a title shot, it seems like Max Powers and Landon Knight are drifting further and further away from the belts that they made great.
Maybe FGA needs to be reminded of who the SMWB are and what they’ve done for them and those titles.
But that will have to wait another day. The SMWB cannot afford distractions at this point in time. Right now, their focus isn’t on FGA or the Tag Titles that used to be theirs. Their focus is now on the Tag Titles that are currently in their possession - the PWP World Tag Team Titles!
The SMWB survived the gauntlet at PWP 11, proving that they were indeed… cringeworthy pun incoming… Too Legit II Quit. Now, it’s Halloween season and at PWP 12: Trick or Treat, Landon and Max have to defend their newly won gold against TMI - Melissa Black and Teagan Cavenagh. These two lovely ladies are not a team that should be taken lightly in the slightest. After months of being viewed as nothing but a joke, the champs wouldn’t dare turn around and do the same thing to them. The fact that they’re two women means absolutely nothing. They’re two opponents, first and foremost. Two tough opponents, might I add. Whatever struggles TMI have had recently, they have been champions in the past. So they have experience under the bright lights. They know how to get the job done. But will they Level Up and take those Tag Titles in Portland, Oregon?
Not if the SMWB have anything to say about it...
[ON-CAM]
Landon Knight: Check it out those bad boys right there. Beautiful, aren’t they?
Max Powers You guys see that? You see that right there? These are your brand spanking new PWP World Tag Team Championship belts! And guess who was the very first team to win these belts? That’s right, these guys right here! It was back at PWP 11, just about a month or so ago when the Red n Green Machine made their way into that Tag Team Gauntlet. Teams from far and wide converged to crown the first-ever PWP Tag Team Champions. You look at the list of names in that match and you say those names didn’t have a lot of flair to them. You’d be right. They weren’t the biggest names in tag team wrestling. They weren’t the most accomplished. But guess what? They were the hungriest. While all the big time tag teams were out chilling, we were all in that ring striving for excellence. While all the other big name teams were out coasting on their reputations, we were out in that ring trying to build ours. Suffice to say that the SMWB has once again added to their legacy by winning these belts.
Landon Knight: You know, the last time we fought for championship belts, we walked in the champions. But we didn’t exactly what out the same way we came in. Landon and I thought we had beaten all the teams that there were to beat. We fended off all challengers. It didn’t matter if they came to us or we went outside those FGA walls to defends these belts, we never ran from a challenge. We fought them head on. But on that fateful night in August, it wasn’t in the cards for us to retain those FGA Tag Titles. Some might attribute that loss to a fluke. Some might attribute our opponents win over us to luck. Whatever excuse you want to use, it doesn’t change the fact that we lost. It was a loss that we didn’t get over. It’s a loss that we still haven't gotten over. Believe me when I tell you that it stings seeing another team walking around with property that used to be yours. It hurts seeing a team walking around with something that you carried and protected for months on end. And it burns knowing that after all the work you put into those belts, establishing them, elevating them, making history with those belts… they’re now around the waist of a team that may or may not even be better than you.
Max Powers We say that to say this. We’re not over that loss because we want it to serve as a constant reminder of what could happen. We want that pain to still be fresh. We don’t want that wound to be quite healed up just yet. We understand how agonizing it is to see another team walk around with the FGA Tag Titles that we held for the longest. We know that we don’t ever want to experience that feeling again. So that’s why we’re clutching these belts just a little bit tighter. That’s why we’re holding these titles just a little bit closer to us. Landon and I don’t want to deal with that fallout for a second time. We don’t want to experience the aftermath of losing tag titles yet again.
Landon Knight: We bring up that loss to also say this. When we lost those belts, we didn’t pout. We didn’t sit around and wallow in our own misery. We weren’t out here throwing pity parties and feeling sorry for ourselves. No. We got back up on our horses and we jumped at the opportunity for another set of tag Titles - these tag titles. And as you can clearly see, we made the most out of that opportunity.
Max Powers Speaking of making the most of out opportunities, the team of TMI is trying to make the most of of their opportunity at PWP 12. It’s the team of Melissa Black and Teagan Cavenagh that will be challenging us in our first defense of these belts. Our first of many successful defenses, might I add.
Landon Knight: Mel. Teagan. We haven’t been formally introduced. I’m Landon. This is my good buddy Max and together we make up the Super Mario Wrestling Bros. We’re two laid back guys. As you can see by the name and the color of our ring attire, I’m pretty sure you can tell what our interests are. But don’t get it confused. We’re just as nice in the ring as we are on the joystick. And along the way, we became one of the best tag teams going in the world today. That isn’t us blowing smoke. That’s a little something called fact. Like us only being pinned once in tag team competition in all of 2014. That’s a fact.
Max Powers A fact that isn’t changing, might I add.
Landon Knight: Or how about the fact that no one has held a title or defended it more times than us in FGA. You see, we’re not a pair of guys that you can just write off based off their appearanc. We’re not a pair of guys that you can dismiss simply because of their name. We are one of the best tandems in the world today. And we will do the same with these PWP tag belts that we did with those FGA tag belts. And that’s elevating them to an even higher level, adding more prestige to these bad boys and putting more eyes on PWP.
We could have easily taken this show off. We could have easily stepped back and took a nice, extended vacation. Not that there’s anything wrong with Portland. But instead of being here, we could have been on some white sandy beach, kicking back and sipping on drinks with the little umbrellas in them.
Max Powers Non-alcoholic, of course.
Landon Knight: Oh absolutely. We could have been on a vaycay while everyone else was slamming, suplexing and powerbombing each other across the ring. But no. That’s not in us. We’ve never taken the easy way out a day in our lives and we won’t start now. Right after we won these belts, Josh Duncan hit us up and asked us if we’d be good to defend these titles at PWP 12. We happily said yes. Mr. Duncan didn’t have to twist our arms. He didn’t have to try and give us more money to show up. No, we showed up because this is our job. More important than that, this is what champions do. What would we look like sitting as home as the champs while everyone else was busting their tails? Then people would start to look at us funny and wonder if we’re truly worthy of holding these straps. But when you look at what we accomplished at PWP 11, coupled with our willingness to take on any and all challengers, I think everyone already knows what the Red n Green Machine is worthy of holding these straps.
Max Powers Worthy. It’s funny you mention that, Landon, because I remember a time when we weren't deemed worthy. People thought we weren't worthy of being in the same ring as them, let alone being mentioned in the same sentence as them. People looked past, around and over us. The disrespect that was shown to us for months on end was beyond blatant. Nerds! Geeks! Losers! Virgins! Oh yeah, I can hear their taunts still ringing vividly in my ear. And I’m sure Mel and Teagan have been through the same thing before. I’m pretty sure you guys have been told that you don’t belong in this ring or that ring because you look a certain way or don’t act a certain way or because of your gender, you’re slot is here. You’re not allowed to be up here at the top. People like you don’t deserve to be main eventers. Yeah, I’m sure you guys have had to put up with the same crap as we have. But you know what? Just like Landon and I, I’m sure you two have made people eat crow as well. I’m sure Team TMI has taken all those words that were thrown at them by their detractors, snatched them out of the air and shoved them back down their throats. That’s why Landon and I respect you guys. You don’t let the naysayers get to you. You don’t let all that outside junk get you guys down. You go out there, lace your boots up and you kick butt all over that ring. Sure, you guys may be inconsistent. Sure, Mel, you may have zero wins and two losses here in PWP. But you know what? Landon and I didn’t exactly set the world on fire, either. We lost for like what, four months in a row?
Landon Knight: Ugh, don’t remind me....
Max Powers We didn’t exactly come out like gangbusters, either. If there was ever a team at the bottom of the barrel, it was us. But it’s just like we said before, we weren't about to mope around with our lips poked out. No, we dusted ourselves off and we climbed that ladder. And we continued to climb and climb until we were the top team in FGA. Then we continued to climb and climb until the SMWB was undoubtedly one of the best tag teams in the world.
Landon Knight: And still one of the best teams!
Max Powers Of course. So yeah, don’t think that Landon and I are going to look down at you because of a so-so record or because you’ve been inconsistent. Nah, we know better than anyone how much it sucks to be overlooked. So we wouldn’t dare do that to you guys. Team TMI has a chance at tag team gold. The two of you have the chance to do something that only one other team has done in the past ten months. And that’s get a victory over the Red n Green Machine. I can tell by the look in your eyes that you’re up for this. I listened carefully to your words and I can tell by the tone and your conviction that you’re up for the task at hand. But just because you’re up for the challenge… doesn’t mean you’re going to overcome it. Just because you want these titles… it doesn’t mean you’re going to win them. Because let me tell you something, ladies, for as bad as you want these belts, we want to keep them that much more! As much as you guys want to add to your history, we want to keep building ours! Josh Duncan and the PWP staff have been nothing but nice to us, even dating all the way back to PWP 8 in Vegas. PWP has shown us nothing but respect and we are willing to repay them back tenfold by upholding the honor of these belts. I’m sure if you guys did win these belts, you would probably do them justice. But you wouldn’t be able to carry them the way that we do. That’s not a slight. That’s just the truth.
Landon Knight: I do have to wonder about one thing, though. Team TMI say they want these belts. They say they want to be the next champs, Max. But if that’s the case, where were they last month, hmm? Where were they last month during that gauntlet match? Where were they when The Throwaway Kids, Cody hawkins & Xavier Young, Shock & Awe, L.E.G.A.C.Y. and the SMWB were tearing the house down at PWP 11? It wasn’t like one or both of them were scheduled in other matches on the card? So where were they? Maybe they don’t want these titles as much as they claim they do. Or maybe, just maybe, they stayed out of that match on purpose? Follow me, Max. Maybe, just maybe they wanted everyone in that gauntlet match to duke it out, go at it from bell to bell, and then get first dibs on whomever the winner was.
Max Powers I don’t know. Mel and Teagan don’t seem like the type to do something like that.
Landon Knight: Of course they don’t. And I’m not saying that they are. But maybe them not competing last month was a well-calculated decision. Hey, I’m not knocking them. If it’s true, it’s a smart move on their part. Why go into a match with all these other teams when you could just get a regular two on two tag match? The odds would be much better. Plus, depending on how beat up the winners of that gauntlet match may be, they could we walking into this match against a pair of battered and bruised champions. It’s just a thought.
Max Powers What you’re saying does make sense. A lot of sense, now that I think about it. Maybe you’re right. Maybe this was TMI’s plan all along. But at this stage in the game, it doesn’t even matter. They’ve got the next title shot. They’re the only thing standing in the way between us walking out of PWP 12 with those Tag Team Titles. Mel and Teagan, we know you guy have got talent. You’re certainly more popular than we are so we know you’re going to have sections of that hot Portland crowd on your side. Normally with these male versus female matches, the males have a tremendous advantage in terms of strength. But let’s be honest. Landon and I are maybe 160 soaking wet. And Mel looks like she could out-bench a lot of the guys, so that goes out the window, too. But you know what we do have? We’ve got pedigree. We’ve got consistency. We’ve got championship experience. You guys have held your fair share of titles, too and you deserve to be applauded for that. But when it comes to this whole tag team thing? When it comes to these titles right here? You’d be hard pressed to find another team on the planet that does this better than us. And if you do find them, I’ll guarantee you that one of those teams isn’t TMI. That isn’t us putting you down. That’s just us letting you know just how good we are right now.
We’re at the top of our games. And for you two to compete with us, you’re gonna have to Level Up. At PWP 12, Mel and Teagan will get our Tricks while the fans in Portland will get our Treats. The Red n Green Machine will walk into The Chiles Center as the Tag Team Champions. But not only will we walk out the champs, but we’ll walk out with the fans in attendance screaming one phrase…
1-UP!
